Interested in becoming a Trustee?

Required attributes for governing the organization as stated by the Governance Committee are:

  • Strategic - Clear understanding of the role of governance, which does not include operations decisions. The candidate has experience with or is comfortable with governance as distinct from a management role.  Able to contribute to the development and execution of our strategic plans, long-range thinking.
  • Communication skills - Able to share ideas, and to speak on key issues is important. The ability provide input and display strong listening skills; attitude of appreciative inquiry.
  • Commitment - The candidate must be willing to make at least a 3 year commitment and participate regularly in Committee and Trustee meetings. Meetings are held predominantly via teleconference, with 2 in-person meetings per year requiring off-call time.

Karin Terpstra, RM

Karin completed a nursing degree at McMaster University in 1995 and worked for a few years as a community nurse in palliative care, but always felt the call to something different. Karin completed her Midwifery degree in August 1999 and practiced for a year with Community Midwives of Brantford. Through the Midwifery Programme, she has worked in many different settings including Hamilton, St. Catharines, Kitchener, Waterloo, St. Jacobs, Guelph, Kingston and The Netherlands. Karin joined Family Midwifery Care of Guelph in January 2001, and has since been blessed with 2 boys and 2 girls of her own, born at home.  She loves being their mama and is currently on an extended leave to focus on them while also doing the work of chairing the AOMBT. She has thoroughly enjoyed working in the beautiful and eclectic community of Guelph and surrounding area and looks forward to many more years learning from women and supporting them and their families through what she hopes will be a wondrous and positive experience of pregnancy and birth. Karin feels privileged to serve within the local community as a midwife and to serve the larger midwifery community at the Trust, supporting midwives to do their work.

Madeleine Clin, RM

Madeleine practices out of the Countryside Midwifery Services in Milverton and has worked on many AOM committees, including CPD committee, and the negotiations committee, the Rural/Remote working group, and has also been on the Board of Directors in the role of Western Regional Rep and Secretary.

Courtney Graham, RM

Courtney is thrilled to be joining the AOMBT as a trustee. Prior to becoming a midwife, Courtney completed a degree in Women’s Studies and Development Studies at Queen’s University. Courtney was drawn to midwifery by her desire to work with women in a positive and empowering health-based context. Since working as a midwife, Courtney has worked in urban and remote regions in Canada and is looking forward to expanding her contribution to midwifery by working with the AOMBT.

Jane Erdman, RM

Jane graduated from Conestoga College’s nursing program in 1977. She brings with her 17 years’ experience as a critical care nurse, specializing in cardiovascular nursing. Jane obtained a B.Sc. in Biology in 1989 followed by a B.H.Sc. in Midwifery from Ryerson. She has been a preceptor for the Midwifery Education Programme since 1998. Jane currently practices with the Womancare Midwives in London. She was one of the 9 original AOMBT Trustees, and has also served as the Treasurer on the AOM Board (2006 – 2011). She is currently a Treasurer and Board member of CAM and has been a member of the AOM Audit committee since 2009.

Nicole Roach, RM

Nicole has been providing care at St. Jacobs Midwives since 1998 after graduating from the McMaster University Midwifery Education Programme (Bachelor of Health Science degree in Midwifery). She is also an alumnus of the University of Waterloo (Honours BA in Psychology, with studies concentrated on the area of Sexuality, Marriage and the Family). More recently Nicole did graduate studies in Public Health. Nicole is an active clinical preceptor and the former Head Midwife at Grand River Hospital. She has been involved on various committees in the hospital, community and the Provincial Council for Maternal & Child Health. Nicole’s proudest accomplishments are her two busy children, both born at home into the hands of a St. Jacobs midwife!

Otis Kryzanauskas, RM

Otis is a full time midwife currently practicing at Community Midwives of Hamilton. He brings with him a strong aptitude toward financial management skills, including investments, tax savings, loan management and repayment, along with a desire to find new ways to keep midwives informed about benefits and financial education.

Kelly Gascoigne, RM

Kelly was born and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Her first degree was in Biology at Queen's University in Kingston with an exchange to the University of Edinburgh in Scotland where she studied Ecology. Kelly then went into the Midwifery Education Program at McMaster University. She was in the Graduating Class of 2002. Kelly then joined the Community Midwives of Brantford in 2002 and has loved working in Brantford since.

Kelly joined the Trust in 2010 as one of the AOM Board appointed Trustees.  She was pleased to be subsequently elected to the Trust.  She continues to sit on the Trust and greatly enjoys the work of facilitating a strong benefits program for the midwifery community.  She currently sits as the Chair of the Member Services Committee, and has held the position of Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect of the Trust since June 2015.

Andrea Mills, RM

Andrea Mills is currently practicing with Barrie Midwives. She was first elected as a Trustee in 2012, and has served as the Chair of the Finance & Audit Committee since 2014. She has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto and worked in that field for 20 years, including as a Manager of Benefits and Pension for a major corporation, and numerous accounting roles. She chose midwifery as a second career, and began practicing in 2011.
