May 5 is International Day of the Midwife, a day to reflect on the role of midwives around the globe – and in 2020, midwives are more essential than ever! We at the AOM Benefits Trust are proud to support the financial, physical, and mental well-being of midwives and the midwifery community.
The theme for IDM 2020 is "Midwives with women: celebrate, demonstrate, mobilise, unite – our time is NOW!" For more information, visit internationalmidwives.org.
The mission of the AOM Benefits Trust is to support the financial, physical and mental well-being of plan members and their families throughout their lives. One aspect of this support is our Member and Family Assistance Program (MFAP).
The MFAP offered through provider HumanaCare, is a member benefit program that assists members with personal problems and/or work-related problems that may impact their work performance, health, mental and emotional well-being
In addition to short-term, solution-focused counselling, the MFAP will offer life coaching, financial planning and legal advice, nutritional counselling, an online wellness platform, and more.

The Ministry of Health and Long-term Care has put out a call to all front-line healthcare workers, including inactive midwives or midwives on leave, to return to practice during the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you decide to suspend or terminate your current leave and return to practice, the AOMBT is required to reactivate your benefits, effective the day of your return. This is in adherence to AOMBT policies, but more importantly, to ensure the safety and continued coverage of our members.
If you are a new registrant, or returning from other circumstances, you will need to fill out and submit the AOMBT Enrollment Form within 30 days of returning to active status. Otherwise, you will be required to submit medical evidence of insurability, which may be difficult to obtain during the current pandemic.
Unsure whether you are enrolled in the benefits plan? Contact the AOM Benefits Trust at email@example.com or 1-866-418-3773 for more information.
Congratulations to returning Trustee Kim Alderdice (Midland Midwives), and our new Trustee: Adriana Fontaine (Kitchener-Waterloo Midwifery Associates). We are looking forward to the knowledge, experience, and perspectives both will bring to the Trust in the coming years.
As we navigate these challenging times, the health and wellbeing of AOMBT staff and AOMBT plan members continues to be at the heart of our efforts.
We commit to keeping you informed on the actions we are taking that best support all of us as well as provide you with timely, relevant updates related to your benefits plan and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Commencing this week, we are providing members with new COVID-19 updates related to your benefits plan. Not receiving emails? Make sure you're subscribed to either the midwife or staff plan mailing list.
Presented by Susan Morrison, a CPA who knows all about the unique way in which midwives are compensated, Tax Time for Midwives will help midwives prepare for tax season.
