October 22, 2024

Benefits

Effective September 1, your Critical Illness plan has been enhanced with additional benefits, including some related to mental health.

The enhancement has additional benefits and coverages including a benefit for hospitalization due to an attempted suicide or defined mental health condition. With the growing need for mental health support, Chubb is the first insurer in Canada to offer a Mental Health Hospitalization Benefit on a CI policy. The AOM Benefits Trust is proud to be able to offer this benefit to you, our members.

The Hospitalization benefit provides payments for expenses including transportation, parking, meals, daycare, pet care, and various medical tests when an insured is hospitalized for over 48 hours.

The Canadian Institute for Health Information has released recent statistics that revealed in Canada from 2022-2023 there were a total of 215,272 hospitalizations for mental health disorders, with the Canadian Mental Health Association reporting that one in five people in Canada will personally experience a mental health problem or illness. Chubb is enhancing coverage in direct response to the urgent need for better support and resources in this area.

Enhanced CI* includes a hospitalization benefit for attempted suicide and the following disorders:

  • Mood Disorders
  • Anxiety Disorders
  • Bipolar Disorders
  • Personality Disorders

With these enhancements, Chubb aims to offer a best-in-class Critical Illness product that provides broad definitions and inclusive coverage.
