Live Well: Diet and Breast Cancer—Sorting Fact from Fiction
Many people enjoy sweets during holidays and celebrations, but some worry that these treats may pose health risks beyond tooth decay. Others believe certain foods can cure cancer. It’s common to reflect on your diet after a breast cancer diagnosis and wonder if different choices could have made a difference.

Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) does regular screenings for a number of cancers, depending on your risk factors. In October 2024, the Ontario Breast Screening Program lowered the starting age for screening from age 50 to age 40.
Live Well: Alcohol—One of the top three risk factors for cancer
There are many reasons to reduce alcohol intake, and one important reason is the link between alcohol and cancer. The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) recommends consuming 2 “standard drinks” or less per week. Increasing that to just 3-6 “standard drinks” per week increases your risk of developing several types of cancer, including breast cancer.
